Hello! My name is Kathy Essmiller, and I live in central Oklahoma. I am the lucky mom of two amazing kids (a son and a daughter, both in college) and share my house with two dogs, an Estonia grand piano and more dust than I would like. I love to camp, read, teach, and experience art.
I am an Oklahoma State Department certified teacher, with an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Kansas State University and a Master's degree in trumpet performance from the University of Central Oklahoma. I am currently working toward a Master of Science in Educational Technology through Oklahoma State University. I have five years of secondary level teaching experience in Kansas, and eight years of experience designing and teaching secondary instrumental and general/technology/worship arts music courses in Oklahoma.
Healthy arts programs facilitating rich and varied student opportunities strengthen who we are as a people. There is much to celebrate in current and historical music education, and I value being part of a community of innovation which supports its continued growth and facilitates increased societal awareness of its relevance.
This site is intended to serve as the classroom hub for a blended, instructor-facilitated, general music course. All of the resources should be shareable-if you are unable to access one, or need a copy you can modify, contact me and I will get one to you. The Digital Audio Workstation project is based on a Model Cornerstone Assessment (found here) published by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and is aligned with the 2014 Music Standards.
